Planet Nine Is A Spaceship

One day I was struck by the idea that what if Planet Nine was a planet-sized spaceship. On it would be some group of aliens representing a galactic federation. I dubbed this federation The Advancement.

This thought, and its ramifications, have become a kind of guiding force for the things I choose to spend my time on. The notion that there may be some group of beings, corporeal and flawed like us, but ahead on the tech tree, has made for a rich place in which to create.

One of the core creative precepts of this notion is that it doesn't put humans at the forefront of the tech tree like most scifi does (looking at you Roddenberry). If we imagine other curious beings like us, who went from inventing planes to the moon within a single lifespan, and then ask, what could they accomplish if given _billions_ of years of scientific development?

The answer I've come to, is anything and everything. I don't really see any reason why there should be a limitation on what Fours can accomplish given that much time. And that's what makes myth so interesting. Skidbladmir, the magical ship in Norse mythology, that can go over land and sea, and fold up to be carried in a pocket, kind of seems trivial a thousand years after Snorri Sturlson wrote about it to pass the Icelandic winter.

I mean, I guess we don't have the miniaturization tech necessary for the pocket thing, but how long do you think we need for that? A century? A millenium? Ten millenia? There are four more orders of magnitude after that number before we reach a billion years.

Maybe the singularity isn't when machines outnumber people, but when our inventions surpass our dreams. To stave that off we need to dream new dreams, we need to create new myths. Commoditization and enshittification have fooled everyone into thinking there is no point in this kind of creation unless you make a gazillion dollars. This is a temporary misunderstanding of value and success.

Because eventually we'll all either die in some cataclysm, or figure out how to get off this rock before the cataclysm happens. And if it's the latter, and we get to hangout with the Fours of The Advancement, I'm not sure they're going to have much use for our dollars even if we have a gazillion.

If you think about billion year old aliens who have the technology to create, probably close to instantly, anything and everything they can think of, the only real value you can bring to the table are things they haven't thought of already.

Here we may call it myth, but there it's ideation for next quarter's product roadmap. Let's Give 'Em Something To Work On.
